Finally, the Contemporary Art Center (CAC) in Malaga opens its doors to a Spanish woman. She may not be well known in Spain but her artwork is unique and more than noteworthy. Victoria Civera was born in Valencia in 1955 and later studies at studied at the College of San Carlos in the same city.

Her work touches on photography, collage, sculpture, installations, though she is first and foremost a painter. Her works began to be recognized during the eighties. Building on the recognition of her work she moved to New York with her husband John Uslé, also an artist, with whom she frequently collaborates.

Her works stand out and reflect variety of viewpoints on the feminine experience: a nostalgic image of woman, the woman as erotic, brave, challenging, tough, and sensitive. A curious thing is that after her pregnancy she begins to use the circle shape in almost all her works, representing the circle of motherhood, the origin and point of care. In many of her works she incorporates various materials such as cotton, silk, buckles, dresses, velvet, plaster, etc …

The exhibition in Malaga is called “Tying the Sky”, and features a collection of 47 paintings realized over the course of the past 10 years, including some new works done especially for this event. As with much of her work the exhibition aims to examine the role of women in society. You can admire such wonderful works as “Mother North” (2009), Cataplaf (2006), and “Anda y pasa” (2006), “Paseando del centro” (2005), “Saliendo del paisaje” (2000). Her work will be on display until August 29 this year. Rent apartments in Malaga, explore this great city and enjoy this excellent exhibition
